The second-best time
"The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second-best time is now."—Chinese Proverb
We are not simple creatures. God knows. He created us this way. Even though our complexity can be a cause of confusion, frustration and apprehension, it allows us to understand our world, form deep relationships, and connect with God. There is a tradition that states that God created us in His likeness. Although metaphors fall short, we get that if we have some likeness to God it means that we must be robust, expansive beings. We must have depth. Yet we are limited, so we experience frustration and impediments of our own creation. If we can learn to accept our undulations, we stand a much better chance of finding an undercurrent of peace. And if we can find an undercurrent of peace, we might tap into it to take advantage of the present moment to plant a seed we’ve kept so long in our pocket.
